Description

The QTX battery-powered disco ball motor rotates mirror balls up to 2kg at 6rpm using a single D-cell battery (not included). The motor housing is a compact 50mm diameter cylinder with a top-mounted rotating hook that accepts standard mirror ball hanging loops, and a bottom-mounted carabiner clip for securing to ceiling fixings, tripod arms or lighting rigs.

Designed for mobile DJs, party venues and temporary installations where mains power is unavailable or impractical, the motor removes the need to run power cables to ceiling positions. The on/off switch on the motor body allows rotation to be started and stopped without removing the battery. At 130g the motor adds minimal load to rigging, making it suitable for lightweight tripod setups and pop-up events.

The motor is housed in a round black plastic case that protects the internal mechanism from minor knocks during transport and setup. The 6rpm rotation speed is consistent with mains-powered motors in the same load class, producing a steady rotation that works well with standard pinspot or beam lighting directed onto the mirror ball surface. Maximum recommended mirror ball size is 25cm diameter at 2kg total weight including hanging hardware.

Frequently Asked

What size mirror ball does this motor support?

The motor supports mirror balls up to 2kg total weight, which typically corresponds to mirror balls up to 25cm diameter. Larger or heavier balls require a mains-powered motor with higher torque.

How long does a battery last?

Battery life depends on the brand and capacity of the D-cell used, and the weight of the mirror ball. A quality alkaline D-cell typically provides 8-12 hours of continuous rotation with a 1-1.5kg load. Rechargeable D-cells have lower capacity and shorter runtimes.

How is the motor attached to the ceiling or rig?

The bottom of the motor has a carabiner clip that attaches to ceiling hooks, tripod arms, or lighting rig points. The top of the motor has a rotating hook where the mirror ball's hanging loop is attached.

Can the rotation speed be adjusted?

No. The motor runs at a fixed 6rpm when switched on. This is the standard rotation speed for most disco ball motors and produces a classic mirror ball effect when paired with pinspot lighting.
