Description

The PowerMaster fire rated fixed downlight pairs an 84mm brushed chrome bezel with a GU10 lampholder set into a steel fire-rated housing. The downlight is designed to maintain ceiling fire integrity in the event of a fire, slowing the spread of flames through ceiling voids in accordance with UK building regulations for fire-rated lighting.

Designed for kitchens, hallways, living rooms and bedrooms where recessed ceiling lighting is required with fire protection, the downlight fits an 84mm ceiling cut-out and requires a minimum 120mm ceiling void depth to accommodate the housing. The fixed position of the GU10 holder directs light straight down, making it well-suited to general ambient lighting across a room or task lighting over kitchen worktops when multiple downlights are spaced evenly.

The brushed chrome bezel provides a low-reflectance metallic finish that integrates cleanly into both white and coloured ceilings. The downlight accepts any standard GU10 bulb up to 50W (sold separately), and dimmer compatibility depends on the specific GU10 bulb chosen. The IP20 rating makes it suitable for Zone 3 bathroom installation (outside the zones immediately around baths and showers) but not for shower enclosures or directly above baths.

What does fire rated mean?

Fire rated downlights are designed to maintain the fire integrity of a ceiling by preventing flames and hot gases from spreading through the ceiling void for a specified period (typically 30, 60 or 90 minutes). This PowerMaster downlight uses an intumescent material that expands when exposed to heat, sealing the cut-out hole in the ceiling and slowing fire spread.

What size ceiling cut-out is required?

The downlight requires an 84mm diameter hole cut into the ceiling and a minimum 120mm ceiling void depth above the plasterboard to fit the fire-rated housing. The visible bezel diameter once installed is 84mm.

Is it dimmable?

The downlight itself is compatible with dimming, but the actual dimming performance depends on the GU10 bulb you use. Dimmable GU10 LED bulbs will dim when paired with a compatible LED dimmer switch. Non-dimmable GU10 bulbs cannot be dimmed.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating makes this downlight suitable for Zone 3 bathroom areas only — typically the area outside a 2.25m radius from a bath or shower, or above 2.25m height in a larger bathroom. It cannot be used in shower enclosures, directly above baths, or within arm's reach of a shower head.
