Description

The Mercury portable UHF HDTV aerial is a compact 160mm mast antenna with a weighted magnetic base, designed for digital terrestrial television reception in vehicles, caravans and temporary installations. The aerial covers the full UK Freeview UHF band from 470-694MHz and includes an integrated LTE filter to block 4G and 5G mobile signal interference that can disrupt TV reception in built-up areas.

The magnetic base attaches to any ferrous metal surface — car roofs, motorhome panels, caravan walls, filing cabinets — and uses the metal surface area to improve signal capture and stability. A 3m coaxial lead with F-type connector runs from the base to the TV or set-top box, giving enough length to route the cable from a roof-mounted aerial down into a vehicle interior or across a room to a portable TV. The aerial is rated IPX4 for outdoor use, withstanding rain and road spray when mounted externally on vehicles.

Reception distance is up to 35 miles from the transmitter under clear line-of-sight conditions, with 2-4dB gain providing adequate signal strength for most UK Freeview services within that range. The compact 160 x 70 x 70mm footprint and 100g weight make the aerial easy to pack for travel and small enough to position in tight spaces. The mast can be angled slightly on the base joint to fine-tune signal direction when the strongest transmitter is off to one side.

Frequently Asked

What does the LTE filter do?

The integrated LTE filter blocks 4G and 5G mobile phone signals that operate in frequencies close to the TV UHF band. Without filtering, strong mobile signals can interfere with digital TV reception, causing pixelation or loss of channels. The filter prevents this interference without affecting the TV signal itself.

Can it be used indoors?

Yes. The magnetic base can attach to metal furniture, radiators, or filing cabinets indoors, or the aerial can be placed on a shelf or windowsill without using the magnetic mount. Indoor reception depends on proximity to the transmitter and the construction of the building — metal-framed buildings and thick walls reduce signal strength.

How strong does the magnetic base hold?

The magnetic base is designed to hold the 100g aerial securely on a vehicle roof at motorway speeds in dry conditions. In heavy rain or when driving over rough terrain, check the aerial is still secure. The magnet will not damage paintwork when used on factory-finished vehicle panels.

What connector does the cable use?

The 3m coaxial cable terminates in a standard F-type connector that screws onto the aerial input on most UK TVs, set-top boxes and laptop TV tuners. If your device uses a different connector type, an adapter may be needed.
