Description

The LumiLife GU10 fire-rated downlight is a recessed ceiling fitting with a 72mm cut-out diameter, white metal bezel and integrated quick-connect terminal block. The fitting accepts a single GU10 bulb up to 20W (sold separately) and is rated for both Part B fire safety and Part E sound resistance, making it compliant for installation in floors and ceilings between dwellings or between rooms requiring fire compartmentation.

Designed for residential refurbishment and new-build projects where Building Regulations require fire-rated downlights, the fitting installs into a 72mm hole cut in plasterboard or MDF, with spring-loaded retention clips holding the bezel flush to the ceiling. The quick-connect terminal block accepts standard mains cable without needing to strip individual conductors into terminal screws, reducing installation time across multiple fittings. The IP20 rating restricts use to dry internal rooms only — Zone 3 in bathrooms, but not in Zones 1 or 2 where water ingress is possible.

The white metal bezel sits approximately 5mm proud of the ceiling surface once installed, with a powder-coated finish that resists yellowing under heat from halogen bulbs. The GU10 lampholder is dimmable when paired with a compatible GU10 LED bulb and dimmer switch — dimmer compatibility depends on the specific bulb model chosen. The 270g weight of the fitting is carried entirely by the retention clips, so no additional support framework is needed in standard plasterboard ceilings.

Frequently Asked

What does fire-rated mean for a downlight?

Fire-rated downlights are designed to maintain the fire integrity of a ceiling or floor when installed. This fitting is Part B compliant, meaning it restores the fire barrier that would otherwise be compromised by cutting a hole for the downlight. This is a Building Regulations requirement for ceilings between floors in multi-storey dwellings and between rooms requiring fire separation.

Does it come with a GU10 bulb?

No. The fitting accepts a GU10 bulb up to 20W, sold separately. Most users pair it with a 5-7W GU10 LED bulb in 3000K or 4000K depending on the room.

What's the cut-out size?

The required ceiling cut-out is 72mm diameter. This is smaller than standard 80-90mm downlight cut-outs, making it suitable for retrofit projects where joists or existing fittings limit space.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating restricts it to Zone 3 only — areas more than 600mm horizontally from a bath or shower cubicle and outside shower spray zones. It cannot be installed in Zones 1 or 2 where direct water contact is possible.
