Description
The Knightsbridge 9-12 gang galvanised steel back box is a 35mm-deep flush-mounting enclosure measuring 199mm high by 134mm wide, designed to house 9-12 gang modular grid systems. The galvanised steel construction resists corrosion and provides a rigid mounting platform for grid mounting frames, with an integrated earth terminal for safe connection of metal faceplates and modules.
Used in commercial and residential installations where multiple switches, sockets, or data modules need to be grouped into a single faceplate location, this back box pairs with Knightsbridge's range of grid mounting frames and accepts both flat plate and screwless faceplate styles. The 35mm depth accommodates standard grid modules and switch mechanisms without requiring deeper chasing into plasterboard or masonry, making it suitable for retrofits where wall depth is limited.
The box is supplied with multiple knockout points for cable entry from the top, bottom, sides and rear, allowing flexible conduit routing depending on the wall cavity configuration. Pre-punched fixing holes at each corner accept standard screws for securing to masonry or timber studs. The galvanised finish on the steel prevents oxidation in humid environments and provides reliable long-term performance behind the wall.

Frequently Asked
What grid systems is this back box compatible with?
The box accepts Knightsbridge 9-12 gang grid mounting frames and faceplates, both flat plate and screwless styles. It works with standard modular grid components including switches, sockets, data modules and blanking plates.
What wall depth is needed for installation?
The 35mm depth requires a minimum 40mm chase depth in masonry or plasterboard to allow the box to sit flush with the finished wall surface and leave clearance for plastering or finishing around the faceplate edge.
How are cables fed into the box?
The box has multiple knockout points on all sides and the rear for cable entry. Knockouts can be removed with a screwdriver or punch depending on the conduit route required by the installation.
Does it have an earth terminal?
Yes. An integrated earth terminal inside the box allows safe connection of metal faceplates and ensures continuity with the main earthing system.
