Description

The Energizer 17W LED bulkhead is an IP44-rated wall or ceiling fitting with an integrated microwave PIR sensor that activates the light on detecting motion. The fitting delivers 1200 lumens of 4000K cool white light from a 17W integrated LED behind a white polycarbonate diffuser, casting broad coverage across porches, driveways, rear entrances and external stairwells.

Designed for Zone 1, 2 and 3 bathroom installation as well as outdoor use, the IP44 rating provides protection against splashing water from any direction but is not suitable for direct spray (Zone 0) or full submersion. The microwave sensor detects motion through the diffuser panel without needing a visible sensor window, giving the fitting a cleaner appearance than traditional PIR bulkheads. Detection range and duration settings are typically adjustable via controls on the fitting base.

The white polycarbonate body and diffuser resist impact better than glass equivalents and will not discolour under typical outdoor UV exposure over a 2-3 year period. The 120-degree beam angle spreads light wide rather than projecting it as a narrow spot, which suits area coverage over targeted illumination. At 660g installed weight the fitting mounts to standard outdoor junction boxes without needing additional support brackets.

Can this be used outdoors all year round?

Yes. The IP44 rating protects the fitting against splashing rain and damp conditions. The fitting is not suitable for areas with direct high-pressure water jets or full submersion.

How does the microwave sensor work?

The microwave PIR sensor emits low-power radio waves and detects changes in the reflected signal when a person or vehicle moves within range. It activates the light automatically and typically offers adjustable detection range and timer duration via controls on the fitting.

Is the LED replaceable?

No. The LED is integrated into the fitting and is not user-replaceable. The LED is rated for 25,000+ hours of operation, which equates to approximately 8-10 years of typical evening-only use.

What zones can this be installed in?

The fitting is rated for bathroom Zones 1, 2 and 3, covering areas above the bath, outside the bath/shower zone, and general bathroom ceiling/wall positions. It cannot be used in Zone 0 (inside the bath or shower tray itself).
