Description
The Knightsbridge CU1800 is a double-gang 35mm surface-mount pattress box with an integrated earth terminal and rounded edges that match the Knightsbridge Curved Edge (CU) series of wiring accessories. The box measures 146mm x 86mm on the faceplate with a 35mm recess depth, providing a 2-gang mounting cavity for switches, sockets and data outlets where flush installation into the wall is not possible.
Designed for retrofit and surface-wiring applications in residential, commercial and industrial settings, the pattress box mounts directly onto plasterboard, brick, block or timber walls using the moulded fixing lugs. The rounded-edge profile pairs specifically with Knightsbridge CU-series faceplates to create a continuous curve from the wall surface to the faceplate edge, giving a neater finish than standard square-edge boxes paired with curved-edge plates.
The box is moulded from white thermoset resin with anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, making it suitable for healthcare, food-prep and high-hygiene environments where surface bacteria reduction is required. The earth terminal is a brass screw post moulded into the rear wall of the box, providing a fixed earth point for metal-framed faceplates and ensuring electrical safety compliance. The IP20 rating confirms protection against finger contact with live parts but no moisture protection, so the box is for internal dry-location use only.

Frequently Asked
What's the difference between a pattress box and a back box?
A pattress box mounts on the wall surface for surface-wiring applications where cutting into the wall isn't possible or desired. A back box is recessed into the wall for flush-mounted wiring accessories. This CU1800 is a surface-mount pattress box.
Which Knightsbridge faceplates fit this box?
This box is designed for the Knightsbridge Curved Edge (CU) series of faceplates. The rounded edge profile of the box matches the curved profile of CU-series plates to give a continuous finish from wall to faceplate.
What does the anti-microbial certification mean?
The thermoset resin is tested to ISO 22196:2011, which measures the reduction of bacteria on the surface over a 24-hour period. This makes the box suitable for healthcare, food-prep and other high-hygiene environments where reducing surface bacteria is a requirement.
Can this be used outdoors?
No. The IP20 rating provides protection against finger contact with live parts but no moisture protection. For outdoor or damp-location use, you need a box with IP65 or higher rating.
