Description

The Chord CTM28-RB is an 8-string traditional mandolin with a linden laminate body and neck, a kabukalli fingerboard and bridge, and a redburst gloss finish. The mandolin is tuned to standard mandolin tuning (G, G, D, D, A, A, E, E) across four pairs of strings, with a 345mm scale length and a 30mm nut width. The floating adjustable bridge allows intonation adjustment, while the loop-end tailpiece anchors the strings and maintains tension across the body.

Designed for folk, Celtic and bluegrass playing, the CTM28-RB suits beginners and intermediate players looking for an affordable instrument with a bright, cutting tone. The linden body provides a balanced resonance with good projection for acoustic ensemble playing, while the open-gear 4-a-side machine heads allow accurate tuning and hold pitch reliably. The redburst finish fades from deep red at the centre to black at the edges, giving the instrument a classic appearance.

The kabukalli fingerboard is harder than rosewood and provides a smooth playing surface with good fret wear resistance. The body measures 270 x 690 x 80mm and weighs 1kg, making it comfortable for extended playing sessions and easy to transport. The f-hole design on the soundboard follows traditional mandolin construction, allowing the top to vibrate freely and projecting the bright, articulate tone characteristic of this instrument family.

Frequently Asked

What tuning does the CTM28-RB use?

What experience level is this mandolin suited for?

The CTM28-RB is designed for beginners and intermediate players. The 345mm scale length and 30mm nut width are standard dimensions that make the instrument accessible for players new to mandolin, while the build quality and tone suit players exploring folk, Celtic and bluegrass repertoire.

What strings does it come with?

The mandolin ships with standard mandolin strings pre-installed. These are light-gauge steel strings designed for the G, D, A, E tuning. Replacement strings are widely available from music retailers.
