Description
The Canela is a set of three fibreclay planters in a warm bronze finish, with a geometric faceted surface that breaks up light and gives each bowl a hand-carved appearance. Fibreclay is a composite of fibreglass strands and clay resin, lighter than terracotta but weather-resistant and frost-tolerant, making these planters suitable for year-round outdoor use as well as indoor display.
The three bowls are sized at 55cm, 45cm and 30cm diameter with shallow proportions that work well for bonsai, succulents, cacti, shallow-rooted grasses and low-spreading groundcover. They can be nested together when not in use, displayed individually across a patio or terrace, or grouped in a triangular cluster on a table or outdoor shelf. The largest bowl at 55cm diameter sits low to the ground at 27cm height, giving it a grounded presence without overwhelming smaller outdoor spaces.
Each planter weighs between 1.8kg (smallest) and 5.4kg (largest), giving enough stability to prevent tipping in moderate wind without the weight penalty of solid stone or cast concrete. The bronze finish carries a subtle metallic sheen that softens in outdoor light and pairs with both warm-toned hardwood decking and cooler grey stone paving. The faceted geometric pattern across the outer surface is cast into the fibreclay during moulding, so it will not wear away with weathering or cleaning.

Frequently Asked
Can these planters stay outdoors through winter?
Yes. Fibreclay is frost-tolerant and weather-resistant, designed for year-round outdoor exposure. If left outdoors in freezing conditions, ensure drainage holes are clear and the planters are not sitting in water that could freeze and crack the material.
Do the planters have drainage holes?
The specification sheet linked above will confirm whether drainage holes are pre-drilled. If not, fibreclay can be drilled carefully with a masonry bit to add drainage where needed for outdoor planting.
What types of plants suit the shallow depth?
The 27cm maximum depth works well for succulents, cacti, bonsai trees, shallow-rooted grasses, moss arrangements, and low-spreading groundcover. Deep-rooted plants like mature shrubs or tall perennials are not suitable for these bowls.
How are the planters cleaned?
Wipe the outer surface with a damp cloth to remove dust and debris. For algae or mineral deposits from outdoor weathering, use a soft brush with water. Avoid pressure washers or abrasive cleaning pads that could damage the bronze finish.
