Description
The Brunsen is a 23cm diameter pendant light with a circular nickel frame suspending a cascade of Strass crystal prisms. A single BC (bayonet cap) bulb sits inside the upper frame, directing light through the crystal to create refracted patterns on surrounding walls and ceilings. The nickel finish on the frame and chain provides a cooler metallic tone than brass or bronze, pairing well with grey, white and monochrome interiors.
Designed for small-scale installations where a full chandelier would overwhelm, the Brunsen suits breakfast nooks, compact hallways, reading corners and bedside positions. The 26cm overall height (excluding chain) and 23cm diameter footprint work in rooms with standard ceiling heights of 2.4m or above when the pendant is hung 600-800mm above a surface or 1800-2000mm above floor level. The crystal prisms hang loose on individual wires, creating subtle movement and reflecting light as they shift.
The Strass crystal is machine-cut rather than hand-cut, giving consistent facet angles across all prisms while keeping the cost lower than traditional hand-cut Czech crystal. The combined weight of frame and crystal totals 1kg, requiring a ceiling rose and chain rated for at least 1.5kg to provide adequate safety margin. The pendant accepts any BC bulb up to 60W, allowing users to choose filament, halogen or LED depending on the light level and colour temperature preferred.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does it take?
The Brunsen uses a BC (B22 bayonet cap) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb at 4-6W and 2700K to enhance the crystal refraction without creating glare.
Is it suitable for bedside use?
Yes. The 23cm diameter and single-bulb configuration make the Brunsen well-suited to bedside positions, either as a single pendant on one side or as a matched pair flanking a bed. Hang the pendant 600-800mm above a bedside table surface to keep the light level comfortable for reading.
How is the crystal attached?
The crystal prisms hang individually on thin wire loops from the circular frame. They are not glued or fixed rigidly, so they shift slightly in air movement and create subtle reflections as they move. This is intentional to the design.
Can it be used in multiples?
Yes. The compact size and consistent nickel finish make the Brunsen effective when installed in groups of two or three over a kitchen island, breakfast bar or in a hallway. Spacing pendants 600-900mm apart provides even light coverage without visual clutter.
