Description

The Knightsbridge AC652581EM is a 5ft twin-lamp non-corrosive fluorescent batten with integrated emergency backup, built around a yellow polycarbonate body with a prismatic diffuser and IP65 weather sealing. The fitting accepts two 58W T8 fluorescent tubes (sold separately) and operates on 110V mains, making it suited to construction sites, outdoor work areas and other low-voltage environments where emergency lighting is required.

Designed for industrial settings including warehouses, workshops, loading bays, external covered areas and plant rooms, the fitting provides maintained, non-maintained or switched emergency function depending on installation requirements. During a mains power failure, the internal emergency battery maintains illumination to allow safe evacuation or continued work. The yellow polycarbonate housing withstands impact, moisture and dust ingress to IP65 standard, while the prismatic diffuser spreads light evenly across work surfaces below.

The 1563mm body mounts directly to ceiling or wall surfaces using the supplied brackets and 12 fixing clips. Push-fit terminals simplify wiring on site, and the Class I construction requires earth connection for safe operation. The polycarbonate body resists corrosion from salt spray, chemical vapours and temperature fluctuation, making the fitting viable in coastal locations and chemical storage areas where steel or aluminium housings would degrade. The 3-year warranty excludes the emergency battery, which typically requires replacement every 3-4 years depending on discharge cycles.

The fitting accepts two 58W 5ft T8 fluorescent tubes with standard bi-pin bases. Tubes are sold separately. Most installations use 4000K or 5000K cool white tubes for industrial work areas.

How does the emergency function work?

The fitting can be wired for maintained (always on), non-maintained (emergency only) or switched emergency operation. During mains failure the internal battery provides emergency illumination. The battery typically lasts 3-4 years before requiring replacement.

Is this suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, the IP65 rating protects against dust ingress and water jets from any direction, making the fitting suitable for covered outdoor areas, loading bays and canopies. It should not be fully exposed to direct rainfall without additional shelter.

Why 110V instead of 230V?

110V input is standard on construction sites and temporary installations where reduced voltage lowers the risk of fatal electric shock. This fitting requires a 110V supply or step-down transformer from 230V mains.
