Description
The Knightsbridge 45A DP switch is a 1-gang double pole switch rated at 45A, designed to control and isolate cookers, ovens, hobs and other high-draw cooking appliances up to 10,350W on a 230V supply. The switch features a red neon indicator that illuminates when the circuit is live, providing visual confirmation of the power state before maintenance or cleaning.
Installed in kitchens as the primary isolation point for fixed cooking appliances, the switch allows the circuit to be turned off without accessing the consumer unit, so appliances can be safely serviced, cleaned or replaced without risk of accidental power-on. The double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when off, providing full circuit isolation rather than just breaking the live conductor.
The gunmetal finish is a dark metallic grey with a slightly brushed texture, sitting between matt black and polished chrome in tone. The ultra flat design projects just 2.5mm from the wall once fitted, making it one of the lowest-profile switches in the Knightsbridge range. A built-in gasket behind the faceplate reduces dust ingress and improves the seal against the wall. The premium grade steel construction and 25-year warranty reflect the intended long-term use in domestic and light commercial kitchens.

Frequently Asked
What appliances can a 45A switch control?
A 45A switch at 230V can handle loads up to 10,350W, which covers most domestic cookers, ovens, hobs and range cookers. It can control a single high-draw appliance or multiple appliances on the same circuit provided the combined load does not exceed 45A.
What does the neon indicator show?
The red neon illuminates when the circuit is live, confirming power is available to the appliance. When the switch is off, the neon goes dark, providing visual confirmation that the circuit is isolated before maintenance or cleaning begins.
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 47mm back box depth is needed for safe installation. The ultra flat design adds just 2.5mm projection from the wall once the faceplate is fitted.
What is double pole switching?
Double pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is off, providing complete circuit isolation. This is safer than single pole switching for high-draw appliances, as it ensures no voltage remains on the neutral line when the appliance is being serviced.
