Description
The Knightsbridge 20AX retractive switch module is a single-pole, 2-way grid module designed to control lighting circuits and appliances up to 4,600W on 230V mains. The module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames from the front, allowing installation or replacement without removing the entire faceplate assembly. The rocker is marked PRESS and returns to the centre position after each actuation, making it suitable for push-to-make momentary control or two-way switching when wired accordingly.
Designed for modular grid wiring systems in residential, commercial and hospitality installations, the module fits Knightsbridge 1-6 gang grid frames alongside other modules such as sockets, dimmers and data ports. The 2-way functionality allows the module to be wired into two-way lighting circuits where the same light is controlled from multiple locations, or as a single retractive switch for door release, bell push or motorised blind control. The 20AX rating handles higher loads than standard 10A switch modules, making it suitable for appliances and multi-bulb lighting circuits.
The anthracite finish provides a dark grey-black contrast against white, ivory or metal grid frames, and the ABS body with steel terminals gives durability under frequent switching. The module measures 56.3mm high by 24.8mm wide, fitting a single grid aperture, and requires a minimum 35mm back box depth behind the grid frame. The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor locations, and the module carries a 25-year warranty from Knightsbridge.

Frequently Asked
What is a retractive switch and how does it work?
A retractive switch returns to the centre position after each press rather than staying in the on or off position. This makes it suitable for push-to-make momentary control (door release, bell push) or for two-way lighting circuits where the switch needs to toggle the light state each time it is pressed.
What grid frames is this module compatible with?
The module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames sold separately. Grid frames are available in 1-6 gang configurations and multiple finishes including polished chrome, brushed chrome, white and black. The module occupies one grid aperture.
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 35mm back box depth is required behind the grid frame. Most standard 35mm or 47mm UK back boxes are compatible, but check clearance if installing alongside deep modules such as dimmers or USB chargers in the same frame.
Can this be used in bathrooms?
The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor locations. It cannot be installed within bathroom zones where higher IP ratings are required by wiring regulations.
