Description
The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang double pole switch is rated for fixed appliances drawing up to 4,600W on 230V mains, making it suitable for electric water heaters, immersion heaters, towel rails and other high-draw equipment wired on a dedicated circuit. The double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when turned off, providing additional safety over single-pole switching for permanently wired appliances.
Designed for installation in kitchens, utility rooms, airing cupboards and bathrooms (outside zones 0-2), the switch fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth. The rounded edge plate with an integrated gasket sits flush against the wall surface, giving a cleaner visual finish than traditional sharp-edged plates. The rocker is brushed chrome to match the faceplate, maintaining a consistent finish across the entire front face.
The premium-grade steel construction gives the plate a solid feel and durability under daily use. The brushed chrome finish provides a soft metallic accent that pairs with both warm and cool colour schemes, showing fewer fingerprints and handling marks than polished finishes. The 85.75mm square plate projects just 7.5mm from the wall once fitted, maintaining a low profile on the mounting surface.

Frequently Asked
What appliances is a 20A switch rated for?
The 20A rating handles appliances drawing up to 4,600W on 230V mains. Typical applications include electric water heaters, immersion heaters, electric towel rails and other high-draw equipment wired on a dedicated circuit. This is not a socket outlet and should only be used to control fixed appliances.
What does double pole switching mean?
Double pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is turned off, whereas single pole switches only break the live line. This provides additional safety for permanently wired appliances and is often required by building regulations for certain fixed appliance installations.
Can this be used in a bathroom?
The IP20 rating means the switch is suitable for dry indoor locations only. In bathrooms it must be installed outside zones 0, 1 and 2 as defined in BS 7671 wiring regulations. Typically this means mounting it outside the bathroom or at least 2.4m from the bath or shower tray if ceiling height permits.
What's the difference between rounded edge and screwless?
Rounded edge plates like this one have visible fixing screws but a curved plate edge with an integrated gasket that sits flush against the wall. Screwless plates use a separate sub-frame and clip-on cover with no visible screws. Both styles give a cleaner finish than traditional sharp-edged screw-fixed plates.
