Description
The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang double pole switch controls high-draw fixed appliances such as water heaters, immersion heaters and large extract fans through a single square-edged antique brass faceplate with a matching metal rocker. The 20A rating handles loads up to 4,600W on 230V mains, while the double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when turned off, providing additional safety over single-pole switching for high-power installations.
Designed for residential and light commercial use in kitchens, utility rooms, airing cupboards and plant rooms, the switch fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and uses screw terminals for direct wiring to fixed appliances. The square edge metal plate creates a clean border without visible screw fixings once installed, and the built-in gasket between the plate and the wall surface improves the fit and reduces movement after repeated switching.
The antique brass finish provides a warm, aged metallic tone that pairs well with traditional, heritage and warm-toned contemporary interiors. The metal rocker matches the plate finish and sits flush with the surface when in the off position. The switch is certified to EN 60669-1 and carries a 25-year warranty, indicating Knightsbridge's confidence in the material and mechanism longevity.

Frequently Asked
What appliances is this switch rated for?
The 20A rating handles fixed appliances up to 4,600W on 230V mains. Common applications include water heaters, immersion heaters, large bathroom extract fans and commercial coffee machines. It is not intended for lighting circuits or standard socket outlets.
What does double pole switching mean?
Double pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is turned off, providing a complete break in the circuit. This is a safety requirement for high-power fixed appliances and offers more protection than single-pole switching, which only breaks the live conductor.
What back box depth is required?
A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The switch plate projects 10.5mm from the wall surface once fitted, giving a total depth of approximately 35.5mm from the wall finish to the front of the rocker.
Is the antique brass finish lacquered?
Knightsbridge antique brass finishes are typically lacquered to prevent tarnishing and maintain the aged tone over time. The finish can be wiped clean with a dry or barely-damp microfibre cloth, but avoid abrasive cleaners or metal polishes that could damage the lacquer.
