Description
The Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur provides isolated circuit control for fixed appliances behind a gunmetal flat plate steel faceplate measuring 87.5mm square. The unit houses a 13A fuse cartridge holder and a rocker switch that isolates the spur from the mains supply, allowing appliances like extractor fans, heaters, or kitchen equipment to be controlled independently from the main circuit.
Designed for residential kitchens, utility rooms, offices and commercial installations where fixed appliances need dedicated circuit protection, the unit fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth. The ultra-low 2.5mm projection from the wall makes it suitable for tight clearances behind kitchen cabinets, worktop upstands, or next to tiled surfaces. The built-in gasket between the faceplate and back box improves sealing against dust ingress in kitchen and utility environments.
The gunmetal finish is a dark grey powder-coated steel that sits between matt black and brushed stainless in tone, pairing well with stainless steel appliances, dark grey cabinetry and industrial-style interiors. The fuse holder cover is colour-matched to the main plate, maintaining a unified appearance when the fuse needs replacing. The unit carries BS 1363-4 certification for fused connection units and an IP20 rating for indoor dry locations.

Frequently Asked
What is a fused spur used for?
A fused spur provides a dedicated fused outlet for fixed appliances like extractor fans, heated towel rails, washing machines, or under-cabinet lighting. The switch allows the appliance to be isolated for maintenance without switching off the entire circuit at the consumer unit.
What fuse rating does it take?
The unit takes a standard BS 1362 13A fuse cartridge. The fuse rating should be matched to the appliance load — most extractors and small heaters use 3A or 5A fuses, while higher-draw appliances like washing machines use the full 13A rating.
Can it be used in kitchens and bathrooms?
The IP20 rating means it is suitable for dry indoor locations. It can be used in kitchens outside splash zones. For bathrooms, the unit must be installed outside zones 0, 1 and 2 as defined by BS 7671 wiring regulations — typically this means outside the immediate bath or shower area.
Is the plate removable for redecorating?
The flat plate is screw-fixed to the back box with visible fixing screws at the top and bottom. The plate can be removed for painting around the spur and refitted once decoration is complete.
