Description
The Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur provides fixed-appliance isolation behind a polished chrome flat plate with an integrated neon indicator and matching fuse holder. The switch controls a single fused outlet rated at 13A, with the red neon illuminating when the circuit is live, giving instant visual confirmation that the appliance downstream is powered.
Designed for permanent appliance installation in kitchens, utility rooms, garages and commercial settings, the fused spur suits boilers, extractor fans, water heaters, towel rails, air conditioning units and other hard-wired equipment requiring local isolation. The flat plate construction gives a 2.5mm projection from the wall once fitted, making it one of the lowest-profile metal faceplates in the Knightsbridge range. The unit fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and includes an integrated gasket to seal the plate edge against the wall surface.
The polished chrome finish is achieved on premium-grade steel, giving a mirror-like reflective surface that pairs with modern, contemporary and chrome-heavy kitchen and bathroom schemes. The flat plate design uses visible screws rather than a screwless cover, keeping the unit within the lower price bracket while maintaining a clean geometric edge. The fuse holder takes a standard 13A BS 1362 fuse and can be accessed by removing the faceplate. BS 1363-4 certification confirms compliance with UK wiring regulations for fused connection units.

Frequently Asked
What is a fused spur used for?
A fused spur provides a switched, fused connection point for a fixed appliance such as a boiler, extractor fan, towel rail or water heater. It isolates the appliance from the ring main and allows the circuit to be switched off locally without needing to access the consumer unit. The fuse inside the unit protects the appliance circuit independently from the main circuit breaker.
What does the neon indicator show?
The red neon illuminates when the switch is in the 'on' position and the circuit is live. This gives instant visual confirmation that power is flowing to the appliance downstream. If the neon does not light when the switch is on, there may be a fault upstream or the fuse may have blown.
What fuse does it take?
The unit takes a standard 13A BS 1362 cartridge fuse, the same type used in UK plug tops. To access the fuse holder, remove the faceplate screws and lift the plate away from the back box. Replace with a fuse of the correct rating for the appliance — most fixed appliances use a 3A, 5A or 13A fuse depending on their load.
Is this screwless or flat plate?
This is a flat plate design with visible screws. The faceplate is fixed directly to the back box with two mounting screws that remain visible once installed. For a screwless version in the same finish, see the Knightsbridge screwless range which uses a separate sub-frame and clip-on cover plate.
