Description
The Knightsbridge 10AX fan isolator switch provides triple-pole switching to isolate extractor fans independently from lighting circuits, behind a brushed chrome rounded-edge faceplate. The 10AX rating handles fan motors up to 2,300W on 230V mains, suitable for standard residential and light commercial extractor fans. The triple-pole configuration cuts all three conductors (live, neutral, earth loop) when switched off, providing full isolation for safe servicing.
Designed for bathrooms, en-suites, utility rooms and kitchens where extractor fans are required under Building Regulations Part F, the switch sits on a 16mm minimum back box depth and uses a screw-fixed faceplate measuring 85.75mm square with 7.5mm projection. The metal rocker is marked 'ON' and 'OFF' with a graphic symbol indicating fan function. IP20 rating restricts use to Zone 3 in bathrooms (outside the zones immediately around baths and showers).
The brushed chrome finish on premium-grade steel provides a directional grain that softens reflections and pairs with contemporary bathroom and kitchen fittings. The rounded-edge plate design sits flush to the wall surface, avoiding the raised rim of traditional square-edge plates. Certified to EN 60669-1 and EN 60669-2-4, the switch carries a 25-year manufacturer warranty. Screw terminals accept standard UK cable sizes up to 2.5mm² for ring circuits or 1.5mm² for lighting.

Frequently Asked
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 16mm back box depth is required for safe installation. The switch uses screw terminals and needs sufficient space behind the faceplate to accommodate cable connections without forcing the plate forward.
Can this be used in a bathroom?
Yes, but only in Zone 3 (600mm or further from baths, showers and basins). The IP20 rating does not provide splash protection, so the switch must not be installed within reach of someone using a bath or shower. Check Building Regulations Part P and BS 7671 for precise zone definitions.
What's the difference between rounded-edge and square-edge plates?
Rounded-edge plates (also called flat plates) sit flush to the wall with a curved outer edge. Square-edge plates have a raised rim that projects further from the wall. Rounded-edge plates generally suit contemporary interiors; square-edge plates suit traditional or period properties.
What other finishes are available in this range?
Knightsbridge produces this 10AX fan isolator in multiple finishes including polished chrome, matt black, white, brushed brass and stainless steel. Use the search function or filters to find other variants in stock at Niori.
