The Knightsbridge CL42PC is a 10AX 6-gang 2-way switch with a polished chrome faceplate and rounded edges, controlling six independent lighting circuits from two locations. Each gang is rated at 10AX (2,300W per circuit on 230V mains), making it suitable for high-load lighting such as multiple ceiling downlight zones, chandeliers, or clusters of spotlights across large rooms.

Designed for open-plan living spaces, through-lounges, hallways with staircases, and commercial interiors where multiple lighting zones need independent control from two entry points, the 6-gang configuration consolidates six separate switches into a single faceplate. The 2-way wiring allows the same lights to be switched on or off from a second switch location — typically at opposite ends of a corridor or at the top and bottom of a staircase. The 304 stainless steel construction with a polished chrome finish provides a reflective metallic surface that pairs with modern, contemporary and minimalist interiors.

The rounded edge profile softens the visual weight of the faceplate on the wall compared to squared-edge plates, and the matching chrome rockers give a unified finish without contrasting insert colours. The plate measures 146.5mm wide by 85.75mm high with an 11.8mm projection from the wall once fitted to a 16mm minimum back box. A gasket is included to prevent dust ingress behind the faceplate. What is 2-way switching?

2-way switching allows the same light or lighting circuit to be controlled from two separate switch locations. This requires two 2-way switches wired in a specific configuration, with three-core-and-earth cable running between them. The typical application is switching a landing light from both the top and bottom of a staircase, or controlling a through-lounge from doorways at either end.

What does 10AX mean?

10AX indicates a 10-ampere rating suitable for switching loads with high inrush current, such as transformers, LED drivers, and fluorescent ballasts. On 230V mains, each gang can switch up to 2,300W. The 'X' denotes compatibility with inductive and capacitive loads, making it safer for modern lighting circuits than standard 6A or 10A switches.

What back box depth is required?

A 16mm minimum back box depth is required for safe installation. The faceplate adds 11.8mm of projection from the wall once fitted, giving a total profile of approximately 28mm from the wall surface to the front of the rockers.

Can this be used with LED lighting?

Yes. The 10AX rating is designed to handle the inrush current from LED drivers and transformers. However, dimming LED lights requires a separate dimmer module — this is a standard on-off switch and does not provide dimming functionality on its own.
