Description
The Knightsbridge 10AX 1-gang 2-way toggle switch pairs an antique brass metal faceplate with a matching metal toggle, providing a physical switch mechanism that moves between two positions with a defined click. The 10AX rating handles resistive loads up to 2,300W at 230V, making it suitable for most domestic lighting circuits including those with multiple lamps or larger fittings.
Two-way switching allows the switch to operate as part of a two-switch circuit controlling a single light from two locations, such as at either end of a hallway or at the top and bottom of a staircase. The square-edge design creates a clean 89mm x 89mm profile that sits flush with the wall surface, projecting 10.5mm from the mounting box once fitted. A built-in gasket seats the faceplate against the wall, minimising gaps around the perimeter.
The antique brass finish is applied to premium-grade steel, creating a warm muted gold tone with subtle darker patination that pairs well with traditional, Arts and Crafts, and industrial-inspired interiors. The finish shows linear brushing on the faceplate surface visible in the image, which softens reflections and gives the metal a directional grain effect. The metal toggle uses the same finish, creating a consistent appearance when the switch is in either the up or down position.

Frequently Asked
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 16mm mounting box depth is needed for safe installation. This is shallower than many switches due to the square-edge screw-fixed plate design, which does not require the additional clearance needed by screwless sub-frames.
What does 2-way mean?
A 2-way switch has three terminals (common, L1, L2) allowing it to be wired as part of a two-switch circuit controlling the same light from two locations. It can also be used as a simple on/off switch in a 1-way circuit by connecting only the common and L1 terminals.
What's the difference between this and a rocker switch?
Toggle switches use a physical lever that moves between two positions with a mechanical click, whereas rocker switches use a flat plate that tilts. Toggle switches give tactile feedback and a more traditional appearance, particularly suited to period or industrial-styled interiors.
What other finishes are available in this range?
Knightsbridge produces this square-edge toggle style in polished chrome, brushed chrome, polished brass, antique brass, black nickel, matt black and white finishes. Use the search function or filters to find other variants in stock at Niori.
