Description
The Knightsbridge 10A fan isolator key switch module is a triple-pole grid module in a black nickel finish, designed for ventilation system isolation in bathrooms, kitchens and commercial washrooms. The key-operated switch provides a safety lockout mechanism that prevents unauthorised switching of extraction fans or mechanical ventilation, making it particularly useful in shared facilities, care homes, hotels and office environments where fan operation needs to be controlled.
The module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames from the front (frames sold separately), allowing it to be combined with other grid modules such as sockets, switches and data ports in a single multi-gang mounting plate. The triple-pole switching isolates live, neutral and a third pole (typically used for the switched live feed to the fan), providing full isolation when the switch is turned off. The 10A rating handles typical bathroom and kitchen extractor fans rated up to 2,300W.
The black nickel finish is a dark metallic tone with a polished surface that pairs with contemporary bathroom and kitchen schemes using black tapware, dark tile grout or charcoal accents. The module measures 56.3mm high by 24.8mm wide (single grid width), fits a 35mm minimum mounting box depth, and carries an IP20 rating suitable for general indoor use outside shower zones. The ABS and steel construction is rated for 1500A conditional short circuit current.

Frequently Asked
What mounting frame is required?
This module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames, sold separately. The module is single-width (24.8mm), so it fits into any Knightsbridge grid frame with at least one available position. Frames are available in 1-6 gang configurations and in matching black nickel finish.
What does triple-pole switching mean?
Triple-pole switching isolates three separate conductors when the switch is turned off. In a fan isolator application, this typically means live, neutral and the switched live feed to the fan are all disconnected simultaneously, providing full isolation of the fan circuit.
Why does a fan isolator require a key?
The key-operated mechanism prevents unauthorised switching, which is useful in commercial, healthcare and hospitality settings where extraction fans need to remain on during specific hours or should not be switched off by building users. The key can be removed in either the on or off position.
Can this be used in a bathroom?
Yes, but the IP20 rating means it must be installed outside the defined bathroom zones (typically Zone 0, 1 and 2). In a typical domestic bathroom, this means positioning the switch outside the shower enclosure area and at least 600mm horizontally from the bath or basin edge.
