Description

The Mercury is a 2m UK plug to figure 8 (C7) socket mains lead rated at 2.5A maximum current and 575W maximum power. The UK 3-pin plug conforms to BS 1363 and carries a 3A fuse, while the figure 8 connector at the device end fits standard C7 input sockets found on audio equipment, routers, laptops, printers and similar low-power devices.

Designed for tidy media units, desks and home offices where powered devices sit within 2m of the nearest wall socket, the cable keeps runs short and reduces visible cable clutter. The twin core construction uses 2 x 0.75mm diameter conductors inside a black outer jacket, with BSI approval confirming the cable meets UK safety and construction standards for domestic and light commercial use.

The figure 8 connector (also known as C7 or shotgun connector) is polarised and fits only one way into the device socket, preventing reversed connection. The 140g weight and 2m length make the cable easy to route behind furniture or along skirting boards without needing cable ties or clips to manage excess length.

Frequently Asked

What devices use a figure 8 connector?

Figure 8 (C7) connectors are commonly found on audio equipment including CD players, DAB radios, turntables, portable speakers, laptop power supplies, routers, printers, some TVs and set-top boxes. The connector is typically used on devices drawing less than 575W.

Is the cable fused?

The UK plug end carries a 3A fuse fitted inside the plug casing. This protects the cable and the connected device from overcurrent conditions. The fuse is replaceable if needed.

What's the difference between figure 8 and cloverleaf connectors?

Figure 8 (C7) is a two-pin non-earthed connector shaped like the number 8. Cloverleaf (C5) is a three-pin earthed connector shaped like a rounded triangle. They are not interchangeable. This Mercury lead is figure 8 only.

Can this power a laptop?

Only if the laptop uses a separate power brick with a figure 8 input socket rated at 575W or below. Most modern laptops use barrel connectors or USB-C for power and would not connect to this lead.
