Description

The Mercury 2m mains lead connects UK 230V mains to IEC C13-equipped devices using a 3-core heat-resistant rubber cable rated to 90°C. One end carries a UK 3-pin plug fused at 10A, the other a C13 female connector (also called an IEC hot connector). The cable uses 3 x 0.75mm² cores inside a black rubber outer sheath that remains flexible at elevated temperatures.

Designed for equipment that generates significant operating heat or sits in hot environments, the cable handles continuous use at temperatures up to 90°C without the outer sheath softening or becoming brittle. This makes it suitable for commercial kitchen appliances, workshop heating equipment, lighting installations with high-wattage lamps in enclosed fixtures, and AV equipment racks where heat builds up during operation. The 2m length provides reach from wall sockets to equipment positioned on benches, in racks, or on worktops without excessive slack cable.

The BSI-approved construction meets UK wiring regulations for mains-connected equipment rated up to 2300W (10A at 230V). The rubber outer sheath resists wear from repeated routing and re-routing during installation or equipment moves, and the cable remains supple enough to bend around tight corners without kinking. The black finish sits discreetly against most equipment chassis and rack frames.

Frequently Asked

What does "hot plug" mean in this context?

Hot plug here refers to the IEC C13 connector being rated for use with equipment that runs at elevated temperatures. It does not mean the cable can be connected or disconnected while the equipment is powered on — always switch off and unplug before connecting or disconnecting mains leads.

What equipment typically uses a C13 connector?

The IEC C13 (cold condition) and C15 (hot condition, as used here) female connectors are found on computer monitors, audio amplifiers, commercial kitchen equipment, stage lighting fixtures, and many AV and IT devices. This lead pairs with equipment that generates significant heat during operation.

Is the cable suitable for outdoor use?

No. The cable is designed for indoor use only. The rubber sheath is heat-resistant but not weatherproof, and the UK plug and IEC connector are not rated for exposure to rain or moisture.

Can I use this with equipment rated under 10A?

Yes. The 10A fuse rating is the maximum current the cable will safely carry. Equipment drawing less than 10A (anything rated under 2300W at 230V) can use this lead without issue.
