Description

The Mercury is a compact lead acid battery charger with selectable 2V, 6V or 12V output, delivering up to 600mA charging current. A slide switch on the front panel selects the appropriate voltage for your battery type, and a pair of spring-loaded crocodile clips on a fixed 1.8m cable attach directly to the battery terminals.

Designed for trickle-charging small lead acid batteries in motorbikes, garden machinery, mobility scooters, alarm systems and backup power applications, the Mercury incorporates polarity reverse protection and a poly-switch that cuts current in the event of a short circuit or over-current condition. This prevents damage to the battery during charging. Green and red LEDs on the front panel indicate charging status and polarity connection.

The charger accepts 100-240V AC mains input at 50/60Hz, making it suitable for use across different regions without a step-down transformer. The compact 82 x 56 x 80mm casing weighs 125g and the fixed 1.8m lead gives working distance from a wall socket to the battery being charged. The crocodile clips are colour-coded red and black for positive and negative terminals.

Frequently Asked

What battery types can this charger be used with?

This charger is designed specifically for 2V, 6V or 12V lead acid batteries only. It is not compatible with lithium-ion, NiMH, NiCd or other battery chemistries. Select the correct voltage on the front panel switch to match your battery's rated voltage.

How long does it take to charge a flat battery?

Charging time depends on the battery capacity. At 600mA maximum output, a completely flat 7Ah 12V battery would take approximately 12-14 hours to reach full charge. Smaller capacity batteries charge faster.

What do the LEDs indicate?

The green LED illuminates when the charger is connected and charging normally. The red LED indicates a polarity error — if you see red, reverse the crocodile clip connections on the battery terminals before continuing.

Is the charger suitable for long-term trickle charging?

The Mercury is primarily a basic charger without smart charging or float mode. It can be used for trickle charging but should be monitored and disconnected once the battery is fully charged to avoid overcharging over extended periods.
