Description

The ESP MAGfire BPS-2 is a 24V 2A boxed power supply unit built for fire alarm systems and emergency lighting installations requiring battery backup. The unit accepts 230V/240V 50Hz mains input and outputs 2A at 27.6V DC, with integrated battery monitoring that tracks charge status and alerts to battery faults via indicator LEDs on the front panel.

Designed for commercial fire alarm installations where mains power feeds a fire panel or emergency lighting system but battery backup is required during outages, the BPS-2 accommodates two 7Ah 12V sealed lead acid (SLA) batteries inside the metal enclosure. The unit continuously charges the batteries when mains is present and switches to battery power automatically when mains fails, maintaining output to connected devices.

The white powder-coated steel enclosure measures 275mm high x 330mm wide x 80mm deep and is designed for wall mounting in plant rooms, service risers, or behind-ceiling voids where fire alarm equipment is typically located. The front panel carries a 230V mains indicator (green LED), a battery charge indicator (yellow LED), and a high-voltage warning label. The unit weighs 2.84kg without batteries and can hold up to 14Ah of battery capacity across the two 12V SLA cells.

Frequently Asked

What battery type does it require?

The unit accepts two 7Ah 12V sealed lead acid (SLA) batteries, wired in series to provide 24V. Batteries are not included and must be purchased separately. Standard fire alarm SLA batteries with spade terminals fit the internal mounting points.

What does the battery monitoring do?

The integrated battery monitoring circuit tracks charge voltage and alerts to low battery or battery fault conditions via the front panel LEDs. The yellow LED indicates charging status, while a fault condition typically triggers a change in the LED state detailed in the product manual.

Can it power a fire alarm panel continuously?

Yes, when connected to 230V mains the unit provides continuous 27.6V DC output at up to 2A. This is sufficient for most conventional and addressable fire alarm panels with typical current draws of 0.5-1.5A under normal operation. The battery backup provides standby power during mains failures.

Where is it typically installed?

The unit is wall-mounted in plant rooms, electrical cupboards, service risers, or behind-ceiling voids where fire alarm equipment is located. It must be accessible for battery maintenance but does not need to be in a public-facing location.
