Description

The JCB AA rechargeable batteries are 2400mAh NiMH (nickel-metal hydride) cells supplied in a 4-pack, pre-charged and ready to use straight from the package. Each battery operates at 1.2V nominal voltage and can be recharged up to 500 times, making them suitable for high-drain devices including digital cameras, gaming controllers, remote controls, torches and portable audio equipment.

Designed for devices that consume power quickly, the 2400mAh capacity holds enough charge to run a typical digital camera through 200-300 shots or power a gaming controller for 15-20 hours of active use before needing a recharge. The batteries work in any AA-compatible device and can be recharged in any standard NiMH charger. The pre-charged state means they can be used immediately without waiting for an initial charge cycle.

The NiMH chemistry holds charge better than older NiCd (nickel-cadmium) technology and does not suffer from memory effect, so the batteries can be topped up at any state of discharge without degrading capacity. The 500-cycle recharge life gives approximately 3-5 years of regular use depending on how frequently the batteries are cycled, making them a more cost-effective option than single-use alkaline AA cells for devices used daily or weekly.

What charger do these batteries need?

Any standard NiMH AA battery charger will work. Do not use chargers designed only for NiCd batteries, as they may not fully charge NiMH cells or may shorten their lifespan.

How long do they take to recharge?

Recharge time depends on the charger. A typical 500mA charger takes approximately 5-6 hours to fully recharge depleted 2400mAh batteries. Fast chargers rated at 1A or higher can reduce this to 2-3 hours.

Can they replace alkaline AA batteries in any device?

Yes, but note that NiMH batteries output 1.2V compared to 1.5V for fresh alkaline cells. Most devices work fine at 1.2V, but a small number of older electronics designed for 1.5V may not operate correctly or may show low-battery warnings earlier than expected.

How should they be stored when not in use?
