Description

The Sangamo Choice Plus is a wireless programmable thermostat with a separate receiver unit, allowing the thermostat to be placed anywhere within 30m of the boiler (80m in open field) without running cable between the two. The thermostat offers 7-day or 24-hour programming with up to six time/temperature events per day, and uses TPI (Time Proportional & Integral) control to cycle the boiler on and off in short bursts, reducing temperature overshoot and improving heating efficiency.

Designed for gas, oil and LPG boilers in residential and light commercial settings, the Choice Plus includes optimum start (pre-heats the room to reach target temperature at the scheduled time), delay start (delays heating if the room is already warm) and delayed stop (turns heating off early if the room will coast to target temperature). The thermostat ships with a pre-programmed heating schedule that can be used immediately or customised via the backlit LCD screen and three-button interface. Battery-powered (batteries included) with low battery indication.

The receiver unit carries a 16A switch rating at 240V AC, handling typical UK domestic boilers and up to 3,840W of load. The thermostat uses an electronic sensor with 0.5°C or 1°C temperature swing adjustment, providing more responsive temperature control than mechanical bimetallic strip thermostats. Temperature range is 5°C to 35°C, with a frost protection mode that prevents the heating system from freezing during extended periods away from the property. Summer/winter time change is handled automatically.

What's the wireless range between thermostat and receiver?

The 868MHz wireless transmission provides up to 80m range in open field conditions, reducing to approximately 30m indoors when walls and floors are present. This is sufficient for most UK homes where the thermostat is wall-mounted in a living area and the receiver is installed near the boiler in a utility room or garage.

Does it work with combi boilers?

Yes. The Choice Plus is compatible with gas, oil and LPG boilers including combi, system and conventional (open vent) types. The receiver provides a volt-free contact rated at 16A, which is suitable for switching the boiler demand circuit on typical UK domestic boilers.

What is TPI control and why does it matter?

TPI (Time Proportional & Integral) control cycles the boiler on and off in short bursts rather than running continuously until target temperature is reached. This reduces temperature overshoot, prevents the room becoming too warm, and improves boiler efficiency by reducing the number of full heating cycles.

Can the programming be overridden?

Yes. The thermostat offers three override modes: permanent (changes the target temperature until manually reset), timed (changes the target for a set period then reverts to schedule), and temporary (holds the current setting until the next scheduled event). These are accessed via the three-button interface on the thermostat.
