Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP switch is a double-pole cooker control in a 2-gang footprint with a red neon indicator and a smoked bronze screwless faceplate. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when turned off, allowing safe maintenance and cleaning of electric cookers, ovens and hobs without needing to isolate the circuit at the consumer unit.

Designed for kitchens where electric cooking appliances draw up to 45A (10,350W) on 230V, the switch is typically mounted within 2m of the cooker itself, often adjacent to worktops or on the wall behind a cooker hood. The 2-gang size provides a larger switch rocker that's easier to operate with wet hands or while holding cookware, and suits kitchens where a larger faceplate fits the design better than a single-gang equivalent. The neon indicator glows red when the switch is in the ON position, providing a visual confirmation that power is flowing to the appliance.

The smoked bronze finish is a dark metallic grey-brown that sits between gunmetal and antique brass in tone, pairing well with darker cabinetry, industrial-style kitchens and warmer metallic accents like brushed copper or oil-rubbed bronze hardware. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame, hiding all fixings and giving a flat, clean finish to the wall. The faceplate is cut from premium-grade steel and carries a 25-year warranty. The switch requires a 35mm minimum back box depth and is certified to EN 60669-1.

Frequently Asked

What back box depth is required?

A 35mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The screwless cover plate adds approximately 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon indicator glows when the switch is in the ON position, confirming that power is flowing to the connected cooker or hob. When the switch is OFF, the neon is dark, providing a visual confirmation that the appliance is safely isolated.

Can this control multiple cooking appliances?

Yes, as long as the combined load does not exceed 45A (10,350W) on 230V. A typical domestic electric cooker with oven and hob draws 32-40A, so the switch provides headroom for induction hobs or dual-fuel setups.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the switch and re-clipped without re-wiring.
