Description

The Knightsbridge 13A 2-gang SP switched socket integrates two USB-A charging ports into a white thermoset resin faceplate with screw cap covers. The dual USB-A ports share a 5V DC 3.1A output, providing simultaneous charging for two devices without occupying the 13A socket outlets. Single-pole switching breaks only the live line when the socket is switched off.

Designed for residential kitchens, bedrooms, home offices and commercial installations where USB charging is needed at fixed socket positions, the 7mm contoured faceplate sits flush to the wall with a shallow 11.4mm total projection once fitted. The socket requires a 25-35mm back box depending on cable volume, with captive terminals accessed from the top for easier wiring in standard single-gang or dual-gang pattress boxes.

The white thermoset resin construction includes anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial surface growth between cleanings. The screw caps cover the fixing screws for a cleaner finish than exposed screw heads, and the twin earth terminals provide flexibility when wiring multiple sockets on the same circuit. The socket carries BS 1363-2 and EN 60950-1 certification and handles standard UK appliance loads up to 3,120W per outlet.

Frequently Asked

What's the USB charging output?

The dual USB-A ports share a 5V DC 3.1A output. When both ports are in use, the 3.1A is split between the two devices. For fastest charging of a single device, use one port only.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 25mm back box depth is needed. If the wiring behind the socket is dense (multiple cables entering the box), a 35mm back box gives more room and makes installation easier.

What does single-pole switching mean?

Single-pole switching breaks only the live line when the socket is switched off. The neutral line remains connected. This differs from double-pole switching, which isolates both live and neutral.

Does the anti-microbial finish need special cleaning?

No. The anti-microbial properties are built into the thermoset resin and remain effective throughout the socket's life. Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent as needed — avoid abrasive cleaners that might scratch the surface.
