Description

The Mercury Olympik is a UHF indoor TV aerial designed for Digital Terrestrial (Freeview) reception, covering the full 470-862MHz frequency band with a 5dB gain and dual-element reflector configuration. The aerial ships as a flat-pack assembly with a tubular black boom, aluminium-finish reflector straps, four dipole elements and a moulded plastic base that allows both horizontal and vertical mounting orientations.

Designed for use in areas with moderate to strong signal strength, the Olympik suits living rooms, bedrooms and home offices where an external roof aerial is impractical or not permitted. The double reflector arrangement reduces multipath interference (ghosting) caused by signal reflections from nearby buildings or metallic surfaces. The aerial connects to a standard Freeview set-top box or built-in TV tuner via the supplied 1.4m coaxial lead with a male F-connector termination.

The Olympik measures 320mm wide by 290mm deep when assembled, with a boom length of 190mm and a total weight of 290g including the base. The plastic base provides a stable platform on flat surfaces such as TV cabinets, shelving or windowsills without needing wall fixings. The aerial is isolated to BS5373 standards for safe connection to UK broadcast equipment. Signal performance depends on distance from the transmitter, local terrain and building construction — the Olympik performs best in postcode areas within 10-15 miles of a main Freeview transmitter with line-of-sight or near-line-of-sight propagation.

Frequently Asked

Will this work with my Freeview TV?

The Olympik is compatible with any Freeview or Digital Terrestrial TV tuner operating in the UK UHF band (470-862MHz). Performance depends on signal strength in your area — indoor aerials work best within 10-15 miles of a main transmitter with minimal obstructions. Use the Freeview coverage checker online to confirm local signal availability before purchase.

Does it require assembly?

Yes. The aerial ships flat-packed and requires basic assembly of the boom, reflector straps, dipole elements and base. No tools are needed — all parts push-fit or clip together. Assembly takes approximately 5 minutes following the included instructions.

Can it be mounted on a wall?

The Olympik is designed as a tabletop aerial with a free-standing base. It can be oriented horizontally or vertically depending on the polarisation of your local transmitter. Wall mounting is not directly supported, though the base could be fixed to a shelf or bracket if needed.

What's the difference between this and an outdoor aerial?

Outdoor aerials typically offer higher gain (10-15dB or more) and better rejection of interference due to their size and elevation. Indoor aerials like the Olympik trade gain for convenience and are suitable for areas with strong local signals. If you experience pixelation, missing channels or signal dropout with an indoor aerial, an outdoor or loft-mounted aerial is usually required.
