Description

The Knightsbridge MSENSOR is a microwave sensor module designed to control lighting loads up to 1000W by detecting movement through changes in high-frequency radio waves. The module measures 92mm x 42mm x 40mm and is housed in a white polycarbonate casing rated IP20 for dry indoor use. It operates on 230V 50Hz mains and carries Class II double-insulation.

Designed as a drop-in module for Knightsbridge bulkhead and panel fittings in the TPBxxMSHF/EM and BFxxS/EM series, the sensor can also be retrofitted into other products or installed independently within a suitable enclosure. The adjustable daylight threshold allows the sensor to activate only when ambient light falls below approximately 2000 lux, preventing the sensor from triggering lighting during daylight hours.

Microwave sensors detect movement by emitting a continuous high-frequency signal and measuring the reflection pattern when objects move within the detection field. This differs from passive infrared (PIR) sensors, which rely on heat signatures. Microwave sensing works through non-metallic materials like plasterboard and plastic, making it useful in enclosed fittings where a direct line of sight is not available. The 1000W maximum load rating covers most domestic and commercial lighting circuits without requiring separate relay switching.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between microwave and PIR sensors?

Microwave sensors emit a continuous high-frequency radio signal and detect changes in the reflection pattern when objects move, working through non-metallic materials like plasterboard. PIR (passive infrared) sensors detect changes in heat signatures and require a direct line of sight to the moving object. Microwave sensors can detect movement through enclosures but may be more sensitive to vibration and air currents.

Can this be fitted to existing Knightsbridge bulkheads?

Yes. The sensor is designed to fit Knightsbridge bulkhead and panel models in the TPBxxMSHF/EM and BFxxS/EM series. It can also be retrofitted into other Knightsbridge products or used independently in a suitable IP20 or higher rated enclosure.

What does the daylight adjustment do?

The adjustable daylight threshold prevents the sensor from activating the connected lighting when ambient light exceeds approximately 2000 lux. This stops lights from switching on unnecessarily during daylight hours, reducing energy use and extending lamp life.

What maximum load can it switch?

The sensor is rated to switch loads up to 1000W on 230V circuits. This covers most domestic and small commercial lighting installations without requiring a separate contactor or relay.
