Description
The Mercury travel adaptor converts a UK 3-pin plug to fit USA Type A and Australian Type I sockets, allowing British devices to be used in American and Australian power outlets. The adaptor body is moulded white ABS plastic with a UK socket on the face and either US flat-blade or Australian angled pins on the rear, depending on which outlet type is encountered.
Designed for travellers carrying UK-plugged devices such as phone chargers, laptop power supplies, electric shavers and low-wattage hair styling tools, the adaptor handles loads up to 1100W at 10A. This is sufficient for most travel electronics but not for high-draw appliances like kettles, hairdryers or irons. The adaptor does not convert voltage — devices must already be compatible with the destination country's voltage (typically 110-120V in the USA, 230V in Australia).
The adaptor complies with BS8546:2016, the British Standard for travel adaptors, which sets requirements for construction, insulation, temperature rise and mechanical strength. At 53 x 53 x 50mm and 25g, the adaptor fits into a jacket pocket or wash bag without adding bulk to hand luggage. The white finish matches most UK plugs and blends into hotel room and apartment power outlets.

Frequently Asked
Does this adaptor convert voltage?
No. The adaptor only converts the physical plug and socket format. Your device must already support the destination country's voltage — check the label on your device's power supply. Most modern phone chargers and laptops support 110-240V worldwide, but some appliances do not.
What's the maximum wattage it can handle?
The adaptor is rated at 10A with a 1100W maximum load. This suits phone chargers, laptop power supplies, electric shavers and similar low-draw devices. Do not use it for hairdryers, travel irons, kettles or other high-wattage appliances.
Will it work in both the USA and Australia?
Yes. The adaptor is designed to fit both USA Type A sockets (two flat parallel blades) and Australian Type I sockets (two angled blades with optional earth pin). Note that Australian sockets run at 230V while USA sockets run at 110-120V, so check your device's voltage compatibility for each destination.
Does it meet safety standards?
Yes. The adaptor complies with BS8546:2016, the British Standard for travel adaptors, covering construction, insulation and mechanical strength requirements.
