Description
The Mercury RG59B/U is a 75 Ohm coaxial cable built around a solid 0.8mm oxygen-free copper (OFC) conductor, a foam-filled polyethylene dielectric of 3.7mm diameter, an aluminium/PET foil screen, and a 48-strand OFC braid. The cable maintains 75 Ohm impedance across video frequencies and ships on a 100m reel with metric cut markers printed along the sheath.
Designed for CCTV camera runs, video signal transmission, and RF distribution in residential, commercial and industrial installations, the RG59B/U handles analogue video, HD-TVI, HD-CVI and AHD signals. The foam PE dielectric reduces signal loss compared to solid dielectric cables, while the dual-layer screen (foil plus braid) provides effective rejection of electromagnetic interference from mains cables, fluorescent lighting and wireless sources. The 6mm overall cable diameter fits standard F-type connectors and BNC crimp terminals.
The solid OFC conductor eliminates the strand-to-strand contact resistance that occurs in multi-strand cables, reducing attenuation at higher frequencies. At 1000MHz the cable shows a maximum attenuation of 24.7dB per 100m, falling to 7.3dB per 100m at 100MHz and 2.8dB per 100m at 5MHz. The 83% velocity factor and 67pF/m capacitance produce low signal delay and minimal distortion on typical CCTV runs of 50-150m. The black PVC sheath is UV-stabilised for outdoor use when run in conduit or clipped to external walls.

Frequently Asked
What video signals does RG59B/U support?
RG59B/U carries analogue CCTV, HD-TVI, HD-CVI, AHD and composite video signals. It is also used for satellite IF distribution and RF transmission at frequencies up to 2150MHz. It does not carry IP/Ethernet signals — those require Cat5e/Cat6 cable.
What connectors does this cable use?
The 6mm diameter fits standard BNC crimp or twist-on connectors and F-type connectors for satellite and RF applications. Compression F-type connectors provide the most reliable termination for outdoor runs.
What is the maximum recommended run length?
For analogue CCTV and HD analogue formats (HD-TVI, HD-CVI), typical maximum runs are 150-200m before signal degradation becomes noticeable. For higher frequencies (satellite IF, 2150MHz) the higher attenuation limits runs to 50-80m depending on signal strength at the source.
Can this cable be used outdoors?
The black PVC sheath is UV-stabilised and suitable for outdoor use when run in conduit, clipped to external walls, or installed in cable trunking. Direct burial is not recommended unless the cable is run inside protective ducting.
