Description
The Mercury is a hi-flex double-insulated speaker cable with two 0.75mm² conductors, each made from 12 solid copper and 12 copper-clad aluminium strands twisted together and sheathed in black PVC. At 7mm diameter the cable remains flexible enough to route through conduit, behind skirting boards, and around corners in both residential and commercial audio installations.
Designed for PA systems, distributed audio in hospitality venues, home theatre multi-speaker setups, and background music installations where cable runs exceed typical domestic lengths, the 100m reel supplies enough cable for most single-zone or small multi-zone projects without splicing. The 6A maximum current rating handles speaker loads up to 240W at 8 ohms on a typical hi-fi or commercial amplifier, making it suitable for ceiling speakers, wall-mounted speakers, and small-to-medium passive floor-standing speakers on runs up to 20-30m without significant power loss.
The double insulation structure keeps the two conductors separated within the outer black PVC sheath, reducing the risk of short circuits during installation and providing added protection where the cable passes through walls or is clipped to surface conduit. The mixed copper and copper-clad aluminium construction balances conductivity with flexibility and weight, allowing the cable to be pulled through ducting or run in tight curves without kinking or breaking strands.

Frequently Asked
What speaker loads can this cable handle?
The 6A maximum current rating supports speaker loads up to approximately 240W at 8 ohms on a typical amplifier. For higher-powered speakers or longer runs where power loss becomes significant, consider stepping up to a larger CSA cable.
Is this cable suitable for outdoor use?
The black PVC sheath provides basic moisture resistance but the cable is not UV-rated or specified for permanent outdoor installation. For outdoor or garden speaker runs, use a cable with UV-resistant or direct-burial-rated sheath.
What is the difference between copper and copper-clad aluminium strands?
Copper-clad aluminium (CCA) is lighter and more flexible than pure copper but has slightly higher resistance. The Mercury uses a mix of both — 12 copper strands and 12 CCA strands per conductor — to balance conductivity, weight and flexibility for installation work.
How many speakers can I run from one 100m reel?
That depends on the installation layout. A typical distributed ceiling speaker system with 10-15m runs per speaker would provide cable for 6-8 speakers from a single 100m reel, accounting for routing and trim waste.
