Description

The Mercury F160mA is a 6 x 32mm quick blow fuse rated at 160mA on 250V circuits. Quick blow (also called fast-acting or F-rated) fuses respond within milliseconds to overcurrent, making them suitable for protecting sensitive low-current electronics, instrumentation circuits, and control systems where rapid disconnection prevents component damage.

Designed for applications where the normal operating current is well below the 160mA rating and where even brief overcurrent can damage components, this fuse opens the circuit faster than slow-blow or time-delay variants. The 6 x 32mm form factor is a standard IEC dimension that fits fuse holders commonly found in audio equipment, test instruments, industrial control panels, and small appliances. The glass tube body allows visual inspection of the internal wire element to confirm whether the fuse has blown.

Each fuse carries a 250V voltage rating, meaning it can safely interrupt circuits up to 250V AC or DC without arcing or sustained current flow after the element melts. The metal end caps provide contact with the fuse holder's terminals and the internal wire element is calibrated to melt at currents marginally above 160mA, typically within the 160-180mA range depending on ambient temperature and duration of overcurrent.

Frequently Asked

What does 'quick blow' mean?

Quick blow (F-rated) fuses respond within milliseconds to overcurrent, opening the circuit almost immediately when current exceeds the rated threshold. This contrasts with slow-blow or time-delay fuses that tolerate brief surges without blowing. Quick blow is used where sensitive circuits need immediate protection.

What's the difference between 160mA and higher-rated fuses?

The 160mA rating is the current threshold at which the fuse will melt and open the circuit. Lower-rated fuses blow at lower currents, protecting more sensitive circuits. Higher-rated fuses tolerate more current before opening. Choose the fuse rating based on the normal operating current of your circuit, typically 20-30% above the expected maximum draw.

Is this fuse reusable?

No. Once the internal element melts, the fuse must be replaced. The glass tube allows visual inspection to confirm whether the element is intact or melted.

What applications typically use 160mA fuses?

Instrumentation circuits, audio equipment signal paths, control systems, low-power test equipment, and sensitive electronics where the normal operating current is below 100-120mA and rapid overcurrent protection is needed to prevent component damage.
