Description

The Mercury is a 2-core figure-8 screened audio cable with each core carrying its own individual lapped screen made from 32 strands of 0.1mm copper. Each core contains 13 strands of 0.1mm copper giving a total CSA of 0.10mm² per conductor. The twin cores sit side-by-side in a flexible black PVC sheath measuring 2.7 x 5.4mm overall, which can be separated by hand without tools.

Designed for low-level audio signal runs in studios, live sound rigs, and fixed installation audio systems, the individual screening on each core reduces interference pickup and cross-talk between channels. The figure-8 profile keeps both cores physically together during installation but allows them to be split apart at termination points without stripping the outer sheath along the full run. The 0.10mm² CSA suits microphone-level and line-level signals over moderate distances without significant signal loss.

Supplied on strong plastic reels in 100m lengths, the cable is flexible enough to route through conduit, under flooring and behind wall panels without kinking. The black PVC sheath provides basic mechanical protection and is easy to strip with standard wire strippers. Each core's screen terminates separately, allowing balanced connections where the screen connects to ground at one end only, or unbalanced connections where the screen acts as the return path.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between individual lapped screen and overall screen?

Individual lapped screen means each core has its own separate screen wrapped around it. This reduces cross-talk between the two cores and gives better channel separation than a single overall screen wrapping both cores together. It also allows more flexible termination where each screen can connect independently.

What applications is this cable suited for?

The 0.10mm² CSA and individual screening suit microphone-level and line-level audio signal runs in studios, PA systems, home theatre installations and commercial audio distribution. Typical uses include connecting mixing desks to amplifiers, running microphone feeds from stage to control position, and distributing line-level audio around buildings.

Can the two cores be separated?

Yes. The figure-8 profile allows the two cores to be pulled apart by hand at termination points without tools. This makes it easier to strip and connect each core separately while keeping the cable run tidy along its length.

What connectors does it terminate to?

The cable terminates to standard XLR, 6.35mm jack, phono/RCA and terminal block connectors depending on the application. The 0.1mm strands and individual screens require careful soldering or screw-terminal clamping to ensure reliable contact and proper screen connection.
