Description
The Mercury 100U is a 75-ohm coaxial cable built around a 1mm solid oxygen-free copper conductor, surrounded by a 4.6mm foamed polyethylene dielectric. A copper foil screen wraps the dielectric, covered by a 64-strand oxygen-free copper braid, all encased in a 6.6mm black PVC outer sheath. The dual-layer screening reduces RF interference penetration, making the cable suitable for satellite, digital terrestrial and cable TV signal transmission.
Designed for residential and commercial AV installations, the 100U handles frequencies from 5MHz to 2150MHz with defined attenuation characteristics across the range. The foamed polyethylene dielectric provides an 83% velocity factor and 54pF/m capacitance, keeping signal loss lower than solid dielectric alternatives over long cable runs. The 100m reel carries metric cut markers printed on the sheath, allowing installers to measure and cut lengths without external measuring tools.
The solid OFC conductor provides a consistent 0.79mm² cross-sectional area, eliminating the strand-to-strand contact resistance found in multi-strand conductors at RF frequencies. The copper foil screen acts as a primary barrier against external electromagnetic interference, while the OFC braid provides mechanical strength and a low-resistance path to ground. Return loss performance holds above 30dB minimum per 100m from 5-400MHz, degrading to 18dB minimum from 1000-2150MHz as frequency rises.

Frequently Asked
What installations is this cable suitable for?
The Mercury 100U handles satellite dish feeds, digital terrestrial TV antenna distribution, and cable TV installations. The 75-ohm impedance matches standard F-type connectors and the frequency response covers both legacy analogue signals and modern digital/HD transmission standards up to 2150MHz.
What's the difference between foamed PE and solid dielectric?
Foamed polyethylene injects air into the dielectric material, reducing capacitance and signal loss compared to solid dielectric cables. The 83% velocity factor on this cable means signals travel faster and with lower attenuation than equivalent solid-core designs, particularly beneficial on runs over 20-30m.
Can this be used outdoors?
The PVC outer sheath provides basic weather resistance for sheltered outdoor runs, but this cable is not UV-stabilised or designed for direct burial. For long-term outdoor exposure or underground installation, use a cable specifically rated for external/burial use.
What connectors does it take?
The 6.6mm outer diameter suits standard compression or crimp F-type connectors designed for 100U/RG6-equivalent cable. The solid OFC conductor and foamed dielectric require connectors with the correct pin depth and compression barrel diameter to maintain 75-ohm impedance at the termination point.
