Description
The Knightsbridge JB008BK is a medium-size outdoor weatherproof enclosure moulded from impact-resistant polycarbonate, measuring 125 x 86 x 62mm externally. Rated IP66, the enclosure seals against dust ingress and high-pressure water jets, making it suitable for outdoor installation of electrical connections, junction boxes, sensor housings and low-voltage control equipment exposed to rain, hose-down or coastal spray.
Designed for outdoor wiring installations where mains or low-voltage connections need protection from weather and physical impact, the enclosure accepts cables through pre-formed gland entry points on the base and sides. The lid is secured with four captive screws visible in the image, and the internal cavity provides clearance for terminal blocks, connectors and small distribution boards. The Class II construction means the enclosure itself does not require earthing, simplifying installation on walls, posts or under eaves.
The polycarbonate shell carries an IK06 impact rating, which means it withstands a 500g hammer dropped from 200mm — enough to handle accidental knocks from garden tools, ladders or routine maintenance work. The black finish resists UV degradation and blends into dark wall surfaces, fascias and garden structures. The enclosure is rated for voltages up to 230V AC 50Hz, covering standard UK mains applications as well as 12V and 24V low-voltage systems.

Frequently Asked
What does IP66 mean in practice?
IP66 means the enclosure is fully dust-tight (the first 6) and protected against powerful water jets from any direction (the second 6). It will handle rain, hose-down, and outdoor installations exposed to weather, but it is not rated for continuous submersion.
What is the IK06 impact rating?
IK06 means the enclosure withstands a 500g hammer dropped from 200mm height. This covers accidental knocks from garden tools, ladders and routine maintenance, but not deliberate vandalism or vehicle impact.
How are cables brought into the enclosure?
Multiple pre-formed cable gland entry points are moulded into the base and sides of the enclosure. You knock out the relevant blanking discs and fit compatible cable glands (sold separately) to maintain the IP66 seal around incoming cables.
Does the enclosure need to be earthed?
No. The Class II construction means the polycarbonate enclosure itself does not require earthing. Any metallic components or equipment housed inside the enclosure should be earthed according to wiring regulations, but the box itself is non-conductive.
