Description
The Knightsbridge JB009BK is an IP66-rated outdoor weatherproof enclosure moulded from impact-resistant polycarbonate, measuring 181mm wide, 111mm high and 100mm deep. The IP66 rating provides full dust ingress protection and protection against heavy water jets from any direction, making the enclosure suitable for outdoor installations exposed to rain, driven snow and washdown environments. The IK06 impact rating confirms resistance to impacts up to 1 joule of energy.
Designed for outdoor electrical wiring applications including garden lighting circuits, gate automation controls, CCTV camera junctions, outdoor socket feeds and irrigation system wiring, the enclosure accommodates multiple cable gland entry points on all four sides and the base. These pre-weakened knockout points accept standard 20mm conduit glands or PVC cable glands depending on the installation method. The enclosure is rated for voltages up to 230V AC 50Hz and carries Class II double insulation.
The polycarbonate body resists UV degradation better than standard ABS enclosures, maintaining structural integrity and colour stability in direct sunlight over multiple years of outdoor exposure. The black finish absorbs less surface dirt than light-coloured enclosures and blends into dark mounting surfaces including brick, rendered walls and fence posts. Four corner screw points allow surface mounting onto walls, posts or equipment housings, with the screws recessed beneath the lid when closed to maintain the IP66 seal.

Frequently Asked
What does IP66 mean in practical terms?
IP66 provides complete protection against dust ingress (the first '6') and protection against heavy water jets from any direction (the second '6'). This means the enclosure can withstand heavy rain, driven snow, and direct hosing without water entering the sealed interior. It does not protect against full submersion.
How are cables brought into the enclosure?
The enclosure has multiple pre-weakened knockout points on all four sides and the base. These accept standard 20mm conduit glands or PVC cable glands depending on whether you're running armoured cable, conduit or flex. Unused knockouts remain sealed to maintain the IP66 rating.
Can this be used for mains voltage wiring?
Yes. The enclosure is rated for voltages up to 230V AC 50Hz and carries Class II double insulation. It's commonly used for outdoor socket circuits, garden lighting feeds, gate automation wiring and similar mains-voltage outdoor applications.
Will the polycarbonate degrade in sunlight?
Polycarbonate resists UV degradation significantly better than standard ABS plastic enclosures. The material maintains structural integrity and colour stability over multiple years of direct outdoor exposure without becoming brittle or discoloured.
