What GX53 is
GX53 is a flat, round bulb with a twist-fit cap, named after the 53mm spacing of its two pins. Rather than screwing or bayoneting in, it locates into the holder and twists a quarter turn to lock. The shallow body is what makes it useful, fitting into spaces too tight for a deeper bulb.
The cap fitting
Every bulb in this range uses the GX53 cap, so there is no need to weigh up screw against bayonet here. The two pins set 53mm apart drop into the matching holder and twist home. It is a fitting you mostly meet in purpose-made fixtures rather than general-purpose lamps.
Brightness and colour
Outputs here run from 5W up to 9W. Colour temperatures described include warm white at 3000K, neutral 4000K and a brighter 5000K daylight white, so you can keep things cosy or go for a cleaner, whiter light. Dimmable and non-dimmable models are both listed, along with higher-CRI80 and CRI90 options where accurate colour matters.
Where they are used
The flat profile makes GX53 the bulb of choice for shallow ceiling fittings, under-cabinet lights and recessed fixtures with little depth behind them. It is common in kitchens and similar spaces where a deeper bulb would not sit flush.
How to choose
Since the cap is fixed, focus on output and colour: pick a wattage for the brightness you want and a colour temperature for the room, then decide on dimming and whether a higher CRI rating is worth it. Free UK delivery over £99, worldwide shipping.
