Description
The Westminster is a 375mm outdoor wall lantern handcrafted from solid brass with an aged brass lacquered finish, four clear glass panels and a vented chimney-style top with decorative pierced slots. A single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately) sits on a brass mounting bracket behind the glass, and the entire lantern projects 120mm from the wall on a solid brass backplate.
Designed for residential front doors, porch entries, cottage walls and garden gateways, the Westminster pairs IP44 weather protection with a design influenced by pre-Georgian British street lanterns. The IP44 rating protects against rain and spray from any direction, making the lantern suitable for positions exposed to typical UK weather. The 260mm width suits standard residential doorways and porches without overwhelming smaller facades.
The aged brass finish is darker and warmer than polished brass, with tonal variation across the surface that mimics natural patina on historic street lighting. The finish is lacquered to slow further oxidation and keep the brass from turning fully green over time. The clear glass panels allow maximum light output from the bulb while the vented chimney top helps prevent condensation buildup inside the lantern housing during temperature changes.
Elstead Lighting supplies the Westminster with a lifetime guarantee covering manufacturing defects on the brass housing and glass panels. The lantern accepts any standard E27 LED, halogen or filament bulb up to 60W, giving flexibility to choose colour temperature and brightness based on the position and ambient light requirements.

Frequently Asked
What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?
IP44 provides protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and water spray from any direction. The Westminster can be fitted to walls exposed to rain and is safe for typical UK exterior positions including porches, doorways and garden walls.
What bulb does it take?
The lantern accepts a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to complement the aged brass and glass housing.
How is the aged brass finish maintained?
The finish is lacquered to slow oxidation. Wipe the brass gently with a dry soft cloth to remove surface dirt. Avoid abrasive cleaners or polishing compounds as these will strip the lacquer and accelerate tarnishing. The glass panels can be cleaned with standard glass cleaner.
Does the finish change over time outdoors?
The lacquer slows but does not completely prevent natural brass ageing. Over several years of exterior exposure the aged brass may darken further and develop additional patina, particularly in coastal or high-humidity locations. This is a characteristic of natural brass rather than a defect.
