Description

The Tamar is a 235mm flush ceiling light built around a cylindrical opal glass diffuser set into a polished gold mild steel frame, with an integrated 5.7W GX53 LED rated at 3000K. The fitting projects 85mm from the ceiling, making it suitable for rooms with ceiling heights below 2.4m where a pendant would hang too low.

Designed for bathrooms, hallways, cloakrooms and landings, the Tamar carries an IP44 rating allowing installation in bathroom zones 2 and 3 (outside the shower enclosure but within the general bathroom space). The opal glass diffuses the LED light evenly across the ceiling plane, avoiding the harsh shadows and glare that can occur with exposed bulbs in small or mirrored rooms. The polished gold frame includes decorative thumb screws and a finial, giving the fitting a traditional edge that pairs well with both period and contemporary bathroom fittings.

The polished gold finish on the mild steel frame provides a warm metallic accent that works alongside brass taps, gold-framed mirrors and warm-toned tiles. The 5.7W LED delivers approximately 470 lumens, sufficient for general ambient lighting in bathrooms up to 5m², and the 3000K colour temperature gives a soft white light that flatters skin tones without the cool blue cast of higher Kelvin temperatures. The GX53 lamp is a twist-lock disc-shaped LED that sits flat within the fitting rather than projecting downwards, keeping the overall height compact.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

Yes. The Tamar carries an IP44 rating, making it suitable for bathroom zones 2 and 3. It can be fitted outside the immediate shower area but within the general bathroom space. It should not be installed directly above a shower head or bath (zone 1) without upgrading to a higher IP rating.

Is the LED replaceable?

Yes. The fitting takes a GX53 LED lamp which is a twist-lock disc type. The supplied 5.7W 3000K LED can be replaced when it reaches end of life. Replacement GX53 LEDs are available separately.

What ceiling height does it suit?

The 85mm projection from the ceiling makes the Tamar ideal for low-ceiling rooms where a pendant would hang too low. It works well in spaces with ceiling heights below 2.4m, including converted loft bathrooms, basement cloakrooms and period properties with lower-than-standard ceilings.

How is it fitted?

The Tamar mounts directly to a standard UK ceiling rose or junction box. The polished gold backplate covers the fixing points, and the opal glass diffuser is held in place by the decorative thumb screws visible in the frame. An electrician will typically complete the installation in under 30 minutes.
