Description

The Solara is a 330mm outdoor wall light with a white powder-coated die-cast aluminium body and a double diffuser made from transparent sandblasted tempered glass. The fitting emits light both upward and downward through a horizontal slot aperture, producing bi-directional illumination from a single E27 bulb (sold separately). The IP54 rating provides protection against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction.

Designed for exterior wall mounting on porches, entrance areas, garden walls and pathways, the Solara delivers functional ambient light whilst maintaining a low-profile 80mm projection from the wall. The bi-directional light output softens shadows and reduces harsh downlighting effects, making the fitting suitable for positions where both uplighting and task lighting are needed, such as either side of a front door or along a garden pathway where upward light helps define vertical surfaces.

The die-cast aluminium construction withstands outdoor exposure without corroding or deteriorating, while the powder-coated white finish resists UV fading and remains consistent through seasonal temperature variation. The sandblasted glass diffuser hides the bulb filament or LED chip from direct view whilst allowing light to pass through evenly, and the tempered glass specification gives the diffuser impact resistance above standard annealed glass. The fitting carries a 5-year manufacturer warranty.

The fitting takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb rated between 6-12W and 2700K-3000K for outdoor use, though the fitting accepts halogen or filament bulbs up to the maximum wattage specified by Ideal Lux.

Is it dimmable?

Yes. Dimmer compatibility depends on the bulb you choose and the specific dimmer switch installed. LED bulbs require a trailing-edge LED-compatible dimmer; halogen and incandescent bulbs work with standard dimmers.

Can it be used in exposed positions?

The IP54 rating means the fitting is protected against dust and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for covered porches, under eaves, and semi-sheltered positions. It is not fully waterproof (which would require IP65 or higher), so avoid positions where the fitting would be directly exposed to heavy rain or standing water.

What colour light does it emit?

The light colour depends entirely on the E27 bulb you install. The sandblasted glass diffuser is neutral and does not tint the light. Choose a bulb with the colour temperature that suits your needs: 2700K for warm white, 3000K for soft white, or 4000K for neutral white.
