Description
The Solar is a 2-light outdoor wall light with two GU10 fittings housed in a cylindrical brushed chrome aluminium body. One lamp faces upwards, the other downwards, each behind a Pyrex glass diffuser that protects the bulb and spreads the light across the wall surface. The 210mm projection places the light approximately 20cm from the wall, creating distinct up/down washes without illuminating the fitting itself.
Designed for exterior use on house walls, porches, patios and commercial entrances, the Solar carries an IP44 rating against dust ingress and water splashing from any direction. The rating makes it suitable for use in covered outdoor areas and exposed positions that don't receive direct heavy rain or jet washing. The compact 65mm width suits narrower wall sections between windows or flanking doorways where a wider fitting would dominate.
The brushed chrome finish on the aluminium body provides a directional grain texture that softens reflections compared to polished chrome, making it less prone to showing fingerprints during installation and cleaning. The cylindrical form and minimal wall bracket suit modern, industrial and contemporary exteriors. Each GU10 fitting accepts bulbs up to 50W (sold separately), allowing you to choose the light output and colour temperature based on whether the fitting provides accent lighting, security lighting, or general illumination for outdoor seating areas.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does it take and are they included?
The Solar takes two GU10 bulbs up to 50W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with LED GU10 bulbs in the 4-6W range for energy efficiency, choosing warm white (2700-3000K) for residential use or cool white (4000K) for commercial or security applications.
Is it suitable for exposed outdoor locations?
The IP44 rating protects against dust and water splashing from any direction, making it suitable for covered porches, under eaves, and moderately exposed wall positions. For fully exposed locations subject to heavy rain, driving wind or direct jet washing, consider an IP65-rated alternative.
Can it be used with a dimmer switch?
Yes, the fitting itself is dimmer-compatible. However, dimming depends on pairing it with dimmable GU10 bulbs and a compatible LED dimmer switch rated for the total wattage. Non-dimmable LED bulbs will not dim even when the switch is dimmer-capable.
How is the brushed chrome finish maintained?
Wipe with a damp microfibre cloth to remove dust and outdoor grime. For more stubborn marks, a mild soapy water solution is acceptable. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, which will scratch the brushed finish and remove the directional grain texture.
