Description
The Shimmer is a 90mm square recessed downlight with a matt black metal bezel and a recessed GU10 socket positioned inside a deep square aperture. The fitting sits flush with the ceiling once installed, with only the black square frame visible from below. The bulb sits approximately 20mm back from the ceiling plane, creating a shadowed pocket around the light source that reduces glare and directs the beam downwards.
Designed for hallways, kitchens, bathrooms (outside shower zones due to IP20 rating), and retail spaces where focused task lighting or accent lighting is needed, the Shimmer works well in runs of three or more fittings spaced 1-1.5m apart for even coverage. The 90mm cutout size fits standard plasterboard ceilings with typical joist spacing, and the shallow 47mm height allows installation in ceilings with limited void depth above.
The matt black finish absorbs light rather than reflecting it, so the fitting itself remains visually recessive while the downward light output provides the functional illumination. The metal construction dissipates heat from the GU10 bulb effectively, and the IP20 rating confirms it's suitable for general indoor dry locations. The Shimmer accepts any GU10 LED, halogen or low-energy bulb up to the maximum wattage specified by Ideal Lux (sold separately), and is dimmable when paired with a compatible dimmer and dimmable GU10 bulb.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does the Shimmer take?
The fitting takes a standard GU10 bulb (sold separately). Most users pair this with a warm-white LED GU10 between 4-6W and 2700K-3000K for general ambient downlighting, or a higher-output 7-10W LED for task lighting in kitchens.
Is it dimmable?
The fitting itself is rated as dimmable. To achieve dimming, you need both a compatible dimmer switch and a dimmable GU10 bulb. Not all GU10 LEDs are dimmable, so check the bulb specification before purchasing.
Can it be used in bathrooms?
The Shimmer carries an IP20 rating, which means it's suitable for general indoor dry locations only. It cannot be installed in bathroom zones 1 or 2 (inside or directly above showers/baths). It can be used in the rest of a bathroom outside these zones where water spray is not present.
What ceiling void depth is required?
The fitting height is 47mm, so a minimum void depth of 50-60mm above the ceiling surface is needed to accommodate the fitting body and allow for wiring clearance during installation.
