Description

The Shade-1 is a compact LED pendant light with a 150mm smoked blown glass shade suspended from a matt black cylindrical canopy on a 2000mm adjustable black cable. The shade comprises two layers: an outer bell of smoked blown glass with a gradient tint from darker at the top to lighter at the rim, and an inner clear acrylic diffuser with satin edges that distributes the integrated 3000K LED output evenly. The metal canopy and cable bracket are powder-coated black.

Designed for kitchen islands, breakfast bars, dining tables and bathroom mirrors where compact directional light is needed, the Shade-1 works individually or in multiples spaced 400-600mm apart along a run. The 2000mm cable allows the pendant to be set anywhere from 300mm to 1500mm below the ceiling rose depending on the application, with the cable trimmed and concealed inside the canopy during installation. The IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor zones.

The smoked glass gradient creates a warm halo effect when lit, with the darker top reducing glare and the lighter rim allowing soft light spill onto adjacent surfaces. The 150mm diameter keeps the pendant compact enough for narrow breakfast bars and bathroom vanities without overwhelming the space. The combination of the smoked gradient, black metalwork and warm 3000K LED output pairs well with industrial, Scandi and dark-toned contemporary interiors.

Is the Shade-1 dimmable?

No. The integrated LED is non-dimmable and operates at fixed brightness on a standard 230V mains circuit. If dimming is required, consider alternative Ideal Lux models with dimmable driver compatibility.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating limits the Shade-1 to dry indoor zones only. It cannot be used in bathroom zones 0, 1 or 2 where water spray or splashing is possible. For bathroom mirror lighting above a sink in zone 3 (where no direct water contact occurs), IP20 is acceptable under UK wiring regulations.

How many pendants are needed for a kitchen island?

For a standard 1200-1500mm island, two Shade-1 pendants spaced 500-600mm apart provide balanced task lighting. For islands over 2000mm, three pendants spaced evenly give better coverage. The compact 150mm diameter means multiple units do not crowd the visual space.

What is the smoked glass finish like when unlit?

The smoked blown glass has a grey-brown gradient that darkens towards the top of the shade and becomes lighter and more translucent towards the rim. When unlit, the shade presents as a darker grey-toned glass bell with visible gradation. When lit, the gradient softens and the warmer LED light glows through the lighter lower section.
