Description
The Sag Harbor is a 419mm outdoor wall lantern with two E14 candle bulb fittings housed inside a rectangular aluminium frame finished in painted burnished bronze. Clear glass panels on all four sides allow unfiltered light out while the IP44 rating protects the internals from rain and dust ingress. A rolled bronze handle sits on top of the frame, echoing traditional carriage lamp design.
Designed for covered exterior walls — porches, patio doorways, garage side entrances — the lantern mounts on a 140mm projection bracket that keeps it clear of the wall surface and allows light to wash sideways as well as forward. The IP44 rating means it handles rain from the sides but is not submersible or suitable for completely exposed positions with driving horizontal rain. Pair it with warm-white E14 candle bulbs (sold separately) to recreate the glow of gas lamps without the maintenance.
The painted burnished bronze finish gives the aluminium frame a hand-rubbed patina appearance, darker in recesses and lighter on edges, which pairs well with traditional brick, painted render, and timber cladding. The clear glass keeps the two bulbs fully visible, so decorative filament bulbs work better here than frosted or pearl equivalents. At 228mm wide the lantern sits comfortably next to a standard residential door without overwhelming the entrance.
Hinkley manufactures the Sag Harbor collection in the USA and backs it with a 3-year guarantee. The aluminium construction resists corrosion better than steel equivalents in coastal or high-humidity locations.

Frequently Asked
What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?
IP44 provides protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashing from any direction. The lantern handles rain on covered porches and doorways but should not be installed in fully exposed positions where driving horizontal rain can reach it directly.
What bulbs does it take?
The Sag Harbor takes two E14 (small Edison screw) candle bulbs up to 40W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs at 4-6W and 2700K to recreate the look of traditional gas lamps.
Can it be installed on brick or render?
Yes. The lantern mounts on a standard backplate with fixing holes for wall plugs. The 140mm projection bracket keeps the frame clear of the wall surface, so it works on flat brick, timber cladding, painted render, and stone.
Is the bronze finish sealed against weathering?
The painted burnished bronze finish is factory-sealed and designed to resist weathering in outdoor conditions. The aluminium base material does not rust, unlike steel lanterns, making it suitable for coastal and high-humidity locations.
