Rutland Small Floor Hurricane 92cm - Antique Gold

The Rutland is a 92cm floor-standing hurricane candle holder built on a natural brown marble base with an antique gold iron stem and circular ring detail. The hammered clear glass cylinder sits on a flat iron platform at the top of the stem, holding a pillar candle up to approximately 150mm diameter. The glass cylinder is open at the top to allow heat to escape and is designed to protect the candle flame from draughts while diffusing the light through the textured glass surface.

Designed for entrance halls, fireplaces, bay windows and dining rooms where a floor-level candle gives ambient light without taking table space, the Rutland works as a single statement piece or in pairs flanking a fireplace or sideboard. The 23cm-square marble base provides stability on hard floors and short-pile rugs, and the natural brown veining in the marble varies between pieces. The antique gold finish on the iron stem and ring is a warm bronze-gold tone with darker patina in the recesses, pairing well with brass, copper and warm wood interiors.

The circular ring midway up the stem is decorative rather than structural, breaking the visual line of the stem and giving the hurricane a more architectural silhouette than a straight-stem design. The hammered texture on the glass catches and refracts candlelight in multiple directions, creating a softer glow than smooth glass. What size candle does it hold?

The glass cylinder holds pillar candles up to approximately 150mm diameter. The platform inside the glass is flat, so the candle sits directly on the black iron surface. Most users pair this with a 100-120mm diameter pillar candle between 150-200mm tall.

Is the marble base stable on rugs?

The 23cm-square marble base weighs over 9kg in total and provides good stability on hard floors and short-pile rugs. On thick or shag rugs the base may benefit from being placed where it sits fully on a flat section of rug rather than on a fold or edge.

Can it be used outdoors?

The iron and glass construction can tolerate outdoor use in sheltered locations such as covered porches or conservatories, but the antique gold finish will patina further if exposed to rain or high humidity. The marble base should be brought indoors during freezing weather to prevent thermal shock cracking.

Does the glass cylinder lift off for cleaning?

Yes. The glass cylinder lifts straight off the iron platform at the top of the stem, allowing the glass to be cleaned and the candle to be replaced. Wipe the glass with a damp microfibre cloth and dry immediately to avoid water marks on the hammered texture.
