Description

The Rigby is a single-light wall fitting from Hinkley, pairing a bronze-finished backplate and curved arm with a brass mesh cone shade. The shade is fabricated from a fine brass wire mesh that lets the lamp glow through while diffusing direct glare, and the socket cover is cast metal rather than stamped, giving the fitting a more substantial presence at close viewing distance. The lamp holder accepts a standard E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately).

Designed for hallways, above kitchen sinks, flanking bathroom mirrors or as reading lights in bedrooms, the Rigby projects 254mm from the wall and provides both task and ambient lighting depending on the bulb chosen. The combination of the bronze arm against the brass mesh gives the fitting a two-tone industrial-meets-traditional character that works in both period conversions and contemporary homes where vintage-inspired fixtures are used as accent pieces.

The mesh shade measures 254mm in diameter at its widest point, tapering upward from a narrow top opening to a wider base. This cone profile directs most of the light downward and outward rather than upward, making it functional over work surfaces or pathways. The cast socket cover shows knurled detailing at the neck where the bulb threads in, and the bronze finish on the backplate and arm has a low-sheen powder coat that resists fingerprints and hides minor surface marks better than polished finishes.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does the Rigby take?

The fitting takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a filament-style LED bulb in the 4-8W range at 2200K-2700K to complement the industrial aesthetic and keep heat output low.

How far does it project from the wall?

The Rigby projects 254mm from the wall surface to the front edge of the mesh shade. This makes it suitable for positions where there's clearance around head height, such as above a sink, along a hallway, or flanking a mirror where users stand close to the wall.

Is the mesh shade robust enough for high-traffic areas?

The mesh is brass wire formed into a rigid cone, not a flexible fabric. It resists denting from incidental contact, but should not be used where it's likely to be knocked repeatedly. The cast socket cover and bronze arm are more robust than stamped alternatives.

Can it be installed upside down to direct light upward?

The fitting is designed to be installed with the shade opening facing downward. Inverting it would place the bulb at the wider base of the cone, reducing the effectiveness of the mesh diffusion and potentially creating glare. Install as shown in the product image for intended light distribution.
