Description

The Radiara-1 is a 144mm diameter recessed LED downlight with an integrated 20W COB (Chip on Board) LED delivering warm white 3000K light through a central reflector. The fitting is constructed from die-cast aluminium with a matt white finish and a fixed beam orientation, designed for flush installation into plasterboard ceilings with a 71mm cut-out diameter.

Designed for bathrooms, kitchens, utility rooms and commercial spaces where moisture resistance is required, the Radiara-1 carries an IP44 front protection rating when fully installed, meaning it resists water splashes from any direction. The 20W output suits general area lighting rather than accent or task lighting, providing even coverage across a 3-4m² zone in a typical 2.4m ceiling height room. Installation requires mains wiring to a suitable driver or transformer (not included) and a ceiling void depth of at least 100mm.

The COB LED technology concentrates multiple LED chips onto a single circuit board, giving higher light output per unit area than traditional SMD arrays and creating a more uniform beam without visible individual diodes. The 3000K colour temperature produces a warm white tone that sits between neutral daylight and the softer glow of halogen, making it suitable for residential interiors where a clinical white would feel too cool. The matt white bezel sits flush with the ceiling line once installed, minimising visual intrusion in modern and minimalist interiors. The non-dimmable driver means the fitting operates at full output only.

Is the Radiara-1 suitable for bathroom zones?

The IP44 front protection rating means the fitting resists water splashes when fully installed, making it suitable for bathroom zones 2 and 3 (outside the shower enclosure and more than 60cm from a bath or basin). It is not rated for installation directly above a bath or inside a shower enclosure (zones 0 or 1).

What ceiling void depth is required?

The fitting requires a minimum ceiling void depth of approximately 100mm to accommodate the LED driver and body. The 71mm cut-out diameter refers to the hole diameter needed in the plasterboard, while the 144mm visible diameter is the bezel that sits flush with the ceiling surface.

Can the LED be replaced?

No. The LED is integrated into the fitting and is not user-replaceable. The LED is rated for approximately 30,000-50,000 hours of operation, which equates to 15-25 years of typical domestic use. If the LED fails within the 5-year warranty period, the entire fitting is replaced.

Is dimming possible?

The Radiara-1 is non-dimmable. Attempting to pair it with a dimmer switch may cause flickering, buzzing or premature failure. If dimming is required, consider a different model in the Ideal Lux range that explicitly supports dimmer compatibility.
